The 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be held in Vienna, Austria, specifically in the Wiener Stadthalle arena, after Austria won the previous edition.

The competition will take place over three nights: the first semi-final on May 12 , the second semi-final on May 14 , and the grand final on May 16, 2026. A total of 35 countries are expected to participate in this edition, one of the lowest numbers in recent years.

As usual, the host country and the so-called "Big Five" (France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain) qualify directly for the final, along with Austria as the winner.

However, this year the festival has been marred by controversy, as several countries have decided not to participate. Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain have boycotted the contest, mainly in protest at Israel being allowed to compete. This is the main reason why the number of participants is lower than usual. Despite this, the contest continues with the classic format of two semi-finals and a final, where a total of 25 countries qualify for the big night.
